Just because I’m pregnant doesn’t mean I can’t do fun stuff. Last week, my blogger friends AJ, Melissa, Anne and I headed to Paint & Sip Studio LA for a Bloggers Night Out (BNO)Â of painting and sipping. I learned to paint a ‘cock! Peacock, y’all. Dirty minds.
The bloggers and I did some bonding with an early dinner and then headed over to the studio, which is on La Brea Blvd, just south of 3rd Street.
Painting and Sipping (Water)
When we checked in, it was already a full house. Whoops!  Everyone seemed to be in pairs or small groups and ready to go. (Be sure to check in early.) Since we got there semi-late, our group was split – I sat with Melissa and Anne sat with AJ. No biggie. It is not a big studio where you can get lost. Plus we ended up chatting with the women next to me and across from us.
Everything is supplied! This includes the apron, brushes, paint, and of course, the canvas. The only thing you bring is your bottled beverage of choice and your energy! I didn’t bring a bottle so Brandon brought me a bottle of water. (Hurray for small blessings.)

Melissa and I chatted about music and my new GD (goddamn gestational diabetes) diet – not only is she the ultimate Duran Duran fan, she’s a registered dietician and certified diabetes educator!  Our instructor Brandon kept us in check with great music and constant instruction. I felt he gave good directions and then walked around the studio to help students.

As the steps went on, we got closer and closer to the finished product.
Brandon would continue to give instructions step-by-step, demonstrating on his own canvas so we could follow along. You’d think painting a peacock would be super hard (I did), but as he broke it down in a series of steps, I got my arty groove on.

Brandon also kept us engaged with peacock trivia. Did you know a female peacock is called a peahen? And baby peacocks are called peachicks. I wonder what kind of trivia he asks when it’s Red Pumps night. Hehe!

The night ended all of us showing off our masterpieces in a group photo! Of course, we needed our own bloggers’ photo with our ‘cocks out!

I thoroughly enjoyed myself! Even sober. Maybe next time, I’ll bring my own Coca-Cola. I’m sure my blogger friends also had a super fun time – we got to spend some time together, goofed around, created a painting, and just enjoyed time away from work and family.
I think this would be a fantastic GNO outing, especially because you are doing something other than drinking. You actually get to take your painting home! I could recommend hiking as a GNO but not everyone is into the outdoors.
Big thanks to the team at Paint & Sip Studio LA for inviting us to experience our (my) first paint and sip event!Â

I have always wanted to do this! A friend of mine does them semi-weekly at her house. As an art/psych major in college, I’ve always loved art but my brushes are dusty. This would be a cool way to get back into it. I do have a balcony to sit and paint on, I could look all professional and cool while having a great excuse to drink wine.
