Making a Mark with Minted (Business Cards)

The new business venture is coming along swimmingly. I have a to-do list that’s a mile long; who said starting your own agency was going to be a piece of cake? One of my glaringly missing pieces (is that a phrase?) is business cards. I’ve held off because I’m still working on the branding and logo design.

However, life doesn’t wait for my slow ass to make up my mind on logos and typography. There are events and conferences to speak at, mixers to mix, and networking to be had. “Order business cards” is now at the top of my to-do list. It’s actually trumped “Create website” if you can believe it.

Fortunately, the nice people at Minted contacted me about new business cards by way of the So Cal Lady Bloggers! Minted is different from your typical card company. Designers (and regular joes) submit their designs, they are then voted on by the public, and the winners go up on the site. (It’s kind of like Threadless business model.)

These are my favorite designs – which ones do you like?

The backs of all of these cards are also designed but you can remove it and upload your own photo or image in place of it.

There are also square-shaped business cards if you don’t like rectangles. Speaking of which, have you seen these cool business card designs? Let those links be inspirations for ya!

So back to Minted. Check them out, and tell me if you end up ordering from them!

Disclosure: The team at Minted is providing me a credit to order business cards in exchange for this post. I’ll let you know what I end up ordering and how it turns out! (So help me choose a design!)

Who’s Got Two Thumbs and is Speaking at BlogHer 2012!??

It’s been under wraps for weeks, and I’ve been dying to blog about it. Well, now I can! I’m going to be speaking about… *drum roll* social media (what else?) at this year’s BlogHer 2012 conference!! Huzzah!

Let me tell you how excited I am: When I read the email from BlogHer, inviting me to speak, I almost fell off my chair. No, really. That morning, I was so surprised that I shot right up from my chair and banged the tops of my thighs into my dining room table, grabbed my legs and tried to sit back down, and almost missed the chair.

My panel’s called: 10 Things You Can Do To Maximize Your Social Media Expertise. Que fancy, eh? I’ll be speaking with one other pro -Nora DePalma.

Want to see the full schedule? Here you go!

This year, the conference will be in New York City… in August. I’ve been warned that it’ll be humid. On the plus side, this also means, I won’t need to pack a heavy coat or boots. This also means I might be able to fly in early to visit The Wife’s grandma and extended family. Grandma is 96 but isn’t very mobile. So anytime we can fly to New York to visit, we do.

If you’re heading out to BlogHer this year, please reach out – I’d love to meet ya!

I’m heading back to UCLA tonight to speak at Erik Deutsch‘s X425 course – Best Practices in Social Media for the Communications Professional! It’s the first class of the semester, and I’m excited. If you’re in the LA area and are interested in taking this course, check it out here.
