KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas, Night 2 – I Feel 25 Again. (Warning: Photo Heavy)

KROQ-acx2012-show-logo

Last night, the Wife treated me to my first (!) KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas show. I’m way old. The program said it was the 23rd annual. TWENTY-THIRD! It was held, as per usual, at the Gibson (Universal) Ampitheatre. Yeah, I’m so old, I still remember it being called the Universal Ampitheatre.

There were 10 bands that played yesterday, and I was looking forward to seeing Imagine Dragons, Of Monsters and Men, Passion Pit, fun., and The Killers.

I had a fantastic time at the show. The only negative that happened was the terrible sound interruption/interference during the entire Of Monsters and Men set. Someone else was talking backstage, and it was jacked into the main speaker system while they were playing. It pretty much ruined the whole set. I felt pretty bad for the band, who played on like champs despite the screw-up.

I missed Neon Trees, so no pics there.

Passion Pit played a short set to make way for the surprise guest – No Doubt and Gwen Stefani’s abs!

Fun. continues to be one of my current favorite bands to watch live. They are so energetic and can move the crowd well. So can The Killers!

Without further ado, here are some of my pics!

Heyyyyyyy sexy lady! 97.1 AMP Radio’s Halloween Concert

The Wife got us tickets to 97.1FM AMP Radio‘s Halloween concert at the House of Blues Sunset Strip last weekend. We saw Rita Ora, Ellie Goulding (second time this week), and…. PSY!

I have to admit, I was really reluctant to go to this show because it was at the House of Blues. HOB and the Palladium are probably my least favorite venues to see shows. I think HOBs are cramped and badly designed. The bar area in the back is usually stuffed with douchebags talking out loud, so you have to try to either get to the floor (where it’s flat and shorties like me can’t see) or in the middle section (where more people talk and cough in your neck). Your choice.

But when will you ever get to see “Gangnam Style” performed live? That’s like waiting for the Shuttle Endeavor to land.. Oh wait… (Well, I didn’t get to see that live.)

Rita Ora – HOB Sunset – 97.1 AMP

Rita Ora was great. She did a 1/2 hour set including a couple of new songs from her album (ETA next year) and her two singles: “Party and Bullshit” and “RIP.”

Ellie Goulding - HOB - AMP 102012

Ellie Goulding – HOB Sunset – 97.1 AMP Radio

Then came Ellie Goulding. We just saw her at the Troubadour so this was like a bonus show for me.

Then this happened. And it was awesome. PSY sang 5 songs and talked between them. It was cool to hear what each song was about and I had fun watching him work the crowd. I love when bands joke about their encore – “Ok we’re going to do this song and then walk off the stage and then walk back.” He did that too.

Friday Five: 8.24.12 – Gotta Get Down on Friday

Yep. Still quoting Rebecca Black. One of my former coworkers at the PR firm used to sound JUST LIKE Rebecca Black when she sang that song. It was scary.

Top 5 things I ran into this week… FUN. stuff. It’s almost like I’m still 25….

IMAG2207-FUN.wiltern

FUN. show – taken with my HTC Evo

1. The Wife and I went to the FUN. show at the Wiltern on Sunday night. Note to self – do not buy Sunday night concert tickets or you will die the rest of the week. You are not 25 anymore. Also, if you buy tickets in the loge/balcony AND it’s a rockin’ concert… the entire balcony WILL BOUNCE and make you think you will fall to your death.

2. I went to our SMCLA event with Liz Strauss, hosted by Beverly Hills Porsche. Recap and thanks on the SMCLA blog.

3. There are a TON of posts and comments I’m missing from the Blogalicious FB Group.

4. I’ve been making plans to meet up with old b-school classmates who are local. One down, one more to go this week.

5. I had dinner with my cousin-blogger An Eye for Fashion and Lifestyle blogger Shop Eat Sleep last night. It’s rare I get to see either of them.

There you have it. Tomorrow, the Wife and I are going to Disneyland! Caveat: It’s my company’s annual picnic. Whatever, it’s Disneyland! That means: churros, popcorn, Coke, corn dog, Dole whip, and more junk food! Yeah!

Have a great weekend, all.

Friday Five: 6.8.12 – Panama!

Did I mention I went to the Van Halen show last weekend? It. was. so. fun! Plus side – David Lee Roth and the Van Halens live. Minus side – slushy alcoholic drink dribbling on me by drunk attendee. In all, exactly what I expected!

Five things of the week. I’ll go first.

1. “Fashion” at the Van Halen show – The grown ass men managed to gross me out the most with a combination of Affliction, Ed Hardy, popped polo collars, jeans with stitched back pockets, bracelets, chains, opened shirts. [Did you just throw up a little? Me too.] I still think these guys get their fashion advice from the Real Housewives of Orange County husbands.

2. I adopted a Nikon D40 from the Wife who is now using a newer prosumer camera. My Canon point and shoot is great but it’s also on its last legs. (Bummer, I love how I can slip it in my pocket.) I took a class on how to use a DSLR this week at Samy’s. I’m still confused as to why I would switch from Aperture to Shutter mode. I might just leave it on Aperture setting and go from there.

3. Games 3 and 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals – LORD. Game 5 is tomorrow. I know that everyone and their mother wants the Kings to come back to win at home but come on. A win is a win. If they win Game 5 (in New Jersey), they WIN THE CUP. Who cares where they play!? We need this win. _I_ need this win.

4. There is something to be said about having ZERO meetings during a workday. You can actually get so much more work done. How about we set aside one day for meetings and all other days for work?

5. Married? You should probably not flirt with the woman next to you or LIE and say you’re not married. You will be caught. What. an. idiot.
