Manic Sunday – Countdown to BlogHer 2012

If you’re following the Twitter hashtag #blogher12, you’ll see that some bloggers are already packed for BlogHer. How can that be!? They’re so prepared!

Me? I’m still prepping for my SMCLA event!

Then I can practice my preso and pack on Tuesday. Wednesday’s going to be crazy – a full day’s work and then hopping right on the plane. Have I figured out my BlogHer schedule? Not really. All I know is that I’m speaking on Friday afternoon,  working out with the Rockettes (!!), and running a 5K on Saturday.

Things to pack? On my list are…:

  • shoes – running shoes, black flats, flip flops, TOMS, sandals, and Vans
  • jeans – two pairs – my purple pair and comfy cropped bf jeans
  • a knit scarf for the plane and the hotel conference rooms
  • noise canceling headphones
  • Kindle and iPad – 50 books don’t read themselves!
  • a notebook, Sharpies and biz cards
  • my old black cardi from H&M – old, faded, but my fave
  • … zzzz..
  • I just fell asleep reading this post.

I’ll stop. Back to work…

BlogHer 2011 Packing List

Conference packing is similar to travel packing – chaotic.

Lucky (?) for me, I signed up for a 5K run sponsored by BlogHer and The Discipline Project on Friday morning. Yeah, yours truly, the fat runner who hasn’t run in…. oh TWO MONTHS has signed up for a 5K.

So… I’m not counting my running shoes in my total number of shoes packed! I think that’s fair. I’m also not counting any running gear – Greta the Garmin, cap, socks, clothes, iFitness belt, iPod, BodyGlide, ….

I took out the big suitcase and packed stuff last night. I brought the suitcase down, and the Wife just shook his head. “It’s just 2 days!” he said. I shot back,”It’s 3,000+ women! You know what that means!” He shook his head again.

Here’s “what I’m packin’”:

  • 3 pairs of flip flops – each has a specific job, only one will be in my bag all day
  • black/colorful platform wedges – for the Friday and Saturday parties (or maybe I’ll wear… flip flops!)
  • black glitter TOMS – daytime
  • F21 skinnies – I’ll be living in these during the day. Oh who am I kidding? I live in these EVERY DAY!
  • 5 tank tops – Um… maybe I can put back 3 of these…
  • 2 lightweight cardigan-type sweaters to go with the tanks
  • black Gap skinny pants - back-up for evening
  • leopard print ballet flats
  • polka-dot sleeveless top
  • black BR sleeveless silk dress – my only “dressy” dress I’m bringing
  • plain blue maxi dress - a very plain one to wear with flip flops!
  • black Anthro skirt to wear if I’m sick of jeans – paired with a tank and sweater… and flip flops!
  • swimsuit – which means a different pair of FLIP FLOPS for the pool!
  • yoga clothes (though I haven’t gotten a confirmation so it may be moot)
  • and a scarf (ok, fine, two) in case it gets chilly in those conf rooms

I don’t mean to sound like a freak but I highly recommend packing cubes. I’ve had these babies for several years now, and they make packing much easier. I can throw all underthings and socks AND jewelry in the little one. The middle one holds my PJs, exercise clothes, swimsuit and running stuff. And the large one holds all my day and night outfits. I just roll everything up and I’m all set.

I never travel without them!

There you have it. I’m working through lunch and then I’m out!

Do you have a travel packing must-have that makes packing easier?

Forgive me if you are following me on Twitter. I anticipate tweeting a lot this weekend.

I’m a Blogger headed to BlogHer

So… here’s my requisite BlogHer post. I’m attending my first BlogHer conference, and I’m pretty excited.

When I did a search for “blogher” on Google, a lot of bloggers said this: “do not set expectations.” Why not?

I expect it to be fun and informative. I expect the con to be full of SWAG that I can share with everyone when I get home. I am rooming with fellow social media/PR pro AJ, aka. Confessions of a Fat Girl. (Yes I just outed you, AJ. Muahaha!) I expect we’re going to have a fun time!

I’ve found some blog posts helpful with what to pack and what to prepare for/expect. I found the best advice from Cheapo McFrugalpants and I Am Crazy Pants. I’m a little overwhelmed at the packing part. Wait, you mean I have to look presentable in the evening? Whaaa? Oh right, we are women – of course we’re going to be checking each other out.

Shoes are an issue. I attended the NSHMBA and NAWMBA Conferences a few years ago (while I was el nerdo studento) and just about died, walking in a suit and heels. (Granted, these were MBA confs, and we all had to look… Republican polished, but jeez, I wish I’d worn Vans with my suit.) Moleskin and Advil saved my feet. Lucky for me, BlogHer seems a lot less stressful than MBA conferences.

I did sign up for a couple of yoga sessions in the mornings. That’s pretty much what I remember. (Must. write. things. down….) I RSVP’d to the Softcup party on Friday night. I hope to meet another fellow Vox refugee who works for the company! PS – TMI – I am a fan of the Softcup.

Lastly, I managed to order new biz cards. +1 for me!

My new Moo cards

I don’t have much to add to this except that I’m looking forward to meeting bloggers in person!
