This weekend was the Unique LA show, and I came with a plan – fun stuff that celebrated LA or So Cal.
Caine’s Arcade was there… and so was Caine.
First up, I headed to the Gumball Poodle booth to pick up more knee-high socks. These are not real compression running socks (sleeves) like my Zensah sleeves, but they’re pretty awesome! I bought the “I <heart> LA” pair and a Bookworm pair.
I picked up some artisan chocolate by Ococoa. If you missed this booth, you missed some delicious chocolate! Lucky for you, I have a coupon code for you. Use “ULA12” “IRUN12“at checkout and get 15% off your order! This discount expires 12/31/12.
I was there for a bit because the owners’ Square app on her iPhone wasn’t working. What the heck, Square? If you’re going to provide the app, you should also provide the wi-fi because they weren’t the only ones who had problems with their app. I ended up giving them cash instead. I hope they got their Square to work because that chocolate was fantastic.
And a couple of Irish Car Bombs by Cake Bar LA. One’s going to my aunt who’s a baker. I thought she’d get a kick out of this. The cake is really rich, and I think it makes for a cute gift. Love their logo. Cake Bar LA sells at local Farmers Markets, so keep an eye out.
I also ran into a woman who made bags out of seed sacks! Selina Vaughan Studios displayed a bunch of neat bags that you could use as totes. I chatted with her husband who told me he traveled all over the country to find these seed sacks for her. BTW, Selina complimented my MbMJ Natasha bag. She loved the sparrow hardware, which is what drew me to the bag in the first place. It’s nice to know I have some good taste. Ha!
I took a break and went to the photobooth to take this pic.
The Poster List booth was full of posters and greeting cards. I picked up this card because it made me laugh. They’re also online if you want one of these cards.
The Wife and I love pop culture and original artwork, and these caught my eye. I picked up a Vader, Ackbar, Boba Fett, and Stormtrooper by Christopher Lee (The Beast is Back). I really wanted to take home every print – Ghostbusters, Batman, Superman, Voltron, Cobra Commander, Captain freaking Planet! I think he needs to add a Slimer.
Last but not least, I picked up a necklace by the founder of Unique LA herself, Sonja Rasula. I think this tells it like it is.
I didn’t go crazy with the pictures this time around. This event did make me think about taking photography lessons, using the Wife’s DSLR. My little Canon point-and-shoot is great for spur of the moment and I love that it fits in my back pocket, but sometimes, I just want some snazzier images.
If you missed this show, don’t fret, there will be a Fall show. If you can’t wait for fall, you might want to check out Renegade Craft Fair. It’ll be up in July in LA. It’s similar to Unique LA but in an outdoor space. Many of the businesses also showcase at Renegade. See you there?
