WIRI: The Facepalm and Misc Updates

Misc Updates – Sorry for the delay in posts! Good god, I haven’t blogged in a while. But I have been keeping up my reading… I am three books ahead of schedule with my 50 in 2013 goal. Unfortunately they’re not super fantastic UF books. Just OK.

I do have another topic to write, which I noted in my GR profile because I was too lazy to write it down in my notebook: the diff betw UF YA and UF adult. Series like Kate Andrews and Elena Michaels force you into a world where paranormal exists in the world. YA UF eases you in w a protagonist thrown into a paranormal status or situation where it is revealed.

I’ve also kept my notebook full of blog topics but just haven’t had the time to sit down and push one out. I stare at my laptop and think “Didn’t I have to do something tonight… oh yeah… cook dinner, clean the bathroom, avoid phonecalls.”

The Gym Update – Still loving this new gym. I haven’t gotten myself out of the bed early enough for 6am spinning. Honestly, it’s so cold that I don’t want to leave my bed. Last weekend, I almost fell off the bike. *insert laughter* Now I can understand Bridget Jones’ falling off her bike.

Did you watch the Golden Globes? I loved Jennifer Lawrence’s acceptance speech. “I beat Meryl.” Hahahahahaha!! If you’ve watched ‘The First Wives Club,’ you’d get it. Love that she used the line from a fun movie. I can’t believe she had to defend herself on Letterman about that line. It’s a quote, dimwits! Look it up.

In other news – this has been happening all over the in real life with people I know. Either they’ve been facepalm-ing or I’ve been facepalm-ing.

Lastly, I’ve transitioned out of Communications Chair and into the Membership Chair role with Social Media Club LA (SMCLA). I’m continuing my stint as blogger as well. If you’re interested in joining one of the largest chapters of the international SMC, let me know! Individual membership is only $100 a year. Your fee helps us with keeping our ticket prices low and affordable for everyone in the LA area.

WIRI: End of Year Updates 2012

let me file it under fuck it

Well, it’s been a crazy year. I think I say that every year. Nothing is really normal, right?

I’ve been ignoring this blog for a few weeks. Been really busy at work with entertainment news and stuff related to that. On the flip side, I do have a list of topics that I still have to finish writing about. Namely, Blogalicious, part 2, which should have been written back in September!

Here we go:

  • I’ve been re-reading a book called Zero Sight. I read two romance novels and am embarrassed to write down the titles. They’re not included in my GoodReads list of 52.
  • I realized I’m not really a romance novel kind of person and should try some other genre to ‘branch out.’
  • I quit 24 Hour Fitness. I went there twice in the 11 months I had a membership. 24 Hour Fitness gyms smell like my armpits… all the time. Why don’t they invest in a better air circulation system? I bet they’d get more members with fresher air alone. Better yet, if they’d renovate all their bottom tier gyms, they’d get so much more business.
  • I joined Crunch instead. With The Wife. I’m liking Crunch a lot. There are few people at this location. I love that. (The new year memberships might bump up the attendance for a while, but I’m hoping it won’t.) Best of all, it doesn’t smell. Zumba reminds me that I really can’t dance and have no rhythm. But that’s ok because I’m having a pretty great time.
  • I’ve never watched Les Miserables the musical. I always thought the premise sounded dumb. I loooove musicals, but I wasn’t going to be suckered again like I was with Miss Saigon or Into the Woods. The Wife made me watch Les Mis the movie with him. I really liked it. Touche, Les Mis fans.
  • The SMCLA holiday event was fantastic. We had a super lineup of power bloggers and the largest number of attendees this year. I’ll be active on the Board for another year.
  • I met many more So Cal Lady Bloggers at our holiday event in Pasadena.
  • I still drink a cup a day. Or more.
haven't had coffee yet

Ch-ch-ch-changes – 9 to 5 Job Update

So you’ve noticed that I haven’t been posting as much this month. Me too! It sucks.

My professional life changed this month. I gave two weeks’ notice, left my then-job, and started a new job… with a much longer, butt-numbing commute. (Alas, my  car is 12 years old, and I really want it to make it to 200,000 miles. I’ve got 42K left to go! So no new car for me for the next year.)

During my last two weeks at the old job, I worked like a fiend to get shit done and/or updated as possible. I absolutely enjoyed working with my team there – yes, including my manager. I have been very fortunate to enjoy and respect and LIKE my hiring managers at every job I’ve held since I’ve graduated college. That’s a lot of jobs and a lot of bosses I’ve admired, respected, and still look up to.

This week is Week 2 of the new gig. I’m managing/directing the social media program for an online company that works with movies. It’s a semi-new industry for me to be in. I’d interned at a movie studio a while back during my b-school days, but it was in the marketing finance department. I’m learning the jargon and the acronyms, but sometimes not fast enough. Luckily, in the language of online marketing, we tend to use the same dictionary.

I still have blog posts to write and a couple to edit and post. On the weekends, I look at my laptop sometimes and I kind of stay away. (That said, it doesn’t mean I’m not wired. Hello, iPadasaurus.)

On the plus side, I’ve been catching up on a ton of podcasts in the car!
