Friday Five: 8.24.12 – Gotta Get Down on Friday

Yep. Still quoting Rebecca Black. One of my former coworkers at the PR firm used to sound JUST LIKE Rebecca Black when she sang that song. It was scary.

Top 5 things I ran into this week… FUN. stuff. It’s almost like I’m still 25….

FUN. show – taken with my HTC Evo

1. The Wife and I went to the FUN. show at the Wiltern on Sunday night. Note to self – do not buy Sunday night concert tickets or you will die the rest of the week. You are not 25 anymore. Also, if you buy tickets in the loge/balcony AND it’s a rockin’ concert… the entire balcony WILL BOUNCE and make you think you will fall to your death.

2. I went to our SMCLA event with Liz Strauss, hosted by Beverly Hills Porsche. Recap and thanks on the SMCLA blog.

3. There are a TON of posts and comments I’m missing from the Blogalicious FB Group.

4. I’ve been making plans to meet up with old b-school classmates who are local. One down, one more to go this week.

5. I had dinner with my cousin-blogger An Eye for Fashion and Lifestyle blogger Shop Eat Sleep last night. It’s rare I get to see either of them.

There you have it. Tomorrow, the Wife and I are going to Disneyland! Caveat: It’s my company’s annual picnic. Whatever, it’s Disneyland! That means: churros, popcorn, Coke, corn dog, Dole whip, and more junk food! Yeah!

Have a great weekend, all.

Friday Five: 6.22.12 – Jury Duty

This week I was on-call for jury duty. I went in one day and waited in the pen. There were framed posters of celebs who had served on a jury or reported for jury duty. People like Judge Lance Ito, Camryn Manheim, Jamie Lee Curtis, Weird Al and Edward James Olmos. I wish I could’ve taken pics of them. Any freshman learning graphic design would have done a better job.

Here are my five for this week:

1. My new old Nikon D-40 needs to be taken out and I’ve got to keep shooting. I’ve accidentally figured out the f-stop for bokeh. Keyword: accidentally.

2. My cousin and fashionista blogger Kat (An Eye for Fashion) was mentioned in one of Budget Babe’s round-ups. Well deserved!

3. Work. Tough week.

4. The Wife was watching Worst Tattoos on TLC. I don’t understand why these people didn’t do any research or check out the quality of their tattoo artists. Oh yeah, most of them were drunk when they went to get a bad tattoo. Gah.

5. The Korean market near my home changed up their cold foods/fermented foods bar. I can tell you now that I will not be tasting this one at all…

Who’s Got Two Thumbs and is Speaking at BlogHer 2012!??

It’s been under wraps for weeks, and I’ve been dying to blog about it. Well, now I can! I’m going to be speaking about… *drum roll* social media (what else?) at this year’s BlogHer 2012 conference!! Huzzah!

Let me tell you how excited I am: When I read the email from BlogHer, inviting me to speak, I almost fell off my chair. No, really. That morning, I was so surprised that I shot right up from my chair and banged the tops of my thighs into my dining room table, grabbed my legs and tried to sit back down, and almost missed the chair.

My panel’s called: 10 Things You Can Do To Maximize Your Social Media Expertise. Que fancy, eh? I’ll be speaking with one other pro -Nora DePalma.

Want to see the full schedule? Here you go!

This year, the conference will be in New York City… in August. I’ve been warned that it’ll be humid. On the plus side, this also means, I won’t need to pack a heavy coat or boots. This also means I might be able to fly in early to visit The Wife’s grandma and extended family. Grandma is 96 but isn’t very mobile. So anytime we can fly to New York to visit, we do.

If you’re heading out to BlogHer this year, please reach out – I’d love to meet ya!

Blogger Spotlight: An Eye for Fashion

If you didn’t know, I come from a very large extended family. I like to joke that back in the day in Hong Kong and China, there were no Planned Parenthoods to offer contraception to my grandparents. Lucky for me, as a result, I have cousins I enjoy spending time with and shooting the sh#t. Since this is my blog, I get to do whatever I want with it, and I want to spotlight my cousin Kat’s whipsmart fashion blog, An Eye for Fashion.

By day, she’s a lead optician. Get it? Get it? Catchy, right? By evening, she’s a fashionista and a huge foodie.

source: http://aneyeforfashion.blogspot.com/2011/11/hong-kong-series-introduction.html

Recently she came back from a trip to Asia, and she’s been blogging about the fashions and delicious food in Hong Kong and Macau. I haven’t traveled to Hong Kong yet, so it’s like reading a tour book of places I want to visit (and eat!). Kat also writes about So Cal life as she is a native Angelena like me. (We’re an endangered species.)

Bookmark or RSS her blog and follow her on Twitter @aneye4fashion!
