Last summer, I started weight training. The Wife convinced me to start using free weights at the gym, and I went on a hunt for weight lifting gloves to protect my hands. I contacted Saranac Gloves directly and asked if they would send a pair for me to review. My hands don’t fit the universal Small (aka. men’s small) size and Saranac makes women’s sizes!
Saranac has a line called b-grl and they’re made for smaller hands. (Read: my hands.)Â They didn’t send one pair; they sent two different pairs of gloves for me to try! I asked for Extra Small gloves.
Now I know some of you are totally anti-gloves. Some fitness people prefer building up calluses to help grip dumbbells and barbells. Me? I like to prefer to protect my hands and not build calluses.
Saranac b-grl Just4Me Gloves
The Just4Me gloves are nice and soft. They’re a terrific beginner pair for anyone who is starting out on lifting weights. They’re soft all the way around with light padding on the flipside. You’ll see the stretch a bit so you may be able to order a size smaller than usual. (It does not stretch so much that it’s uncomfortable and unsafe to lift/grip.)
Saranac b-grl Reveal Gloves
I’ve alternated using both pairs of gloves in my workouts. My favorite Saranac pair is the b-grl Reveal gloves, which are designed for cycling but they’re perfect for lifting! These gloves are true to size so the Extra Smalls are a little snug on me, but I still use them. I like that the tops of the gloves are just elastic ribbing.
Both pairs of gloves are extremely lightweight. They protect my hands, especially my wedding ring. Yes, I do keep my ring on when I grab weights. (I’m pretty brutal with my rings, if you hadn’t noticed.) They’re not like the gloves The Wife uses with the wrist velcro strap and a ton of leather. For the amount of lifting I do per session, these gloves are the ideal make – breathable fabric, leather where you need it, velcro, and JUST MY SIZE.
I’m no fitness expert but I can tell you that I’ve gotten leaner because I’ve added lifting to my workout routines. (Don’t get me wrong – I love to zumba, too!) If you want to try weight lifting, I’d recommend you consult a trainer and your doctor before you start. They’ll probably have a easy-to-remember routine you can start out with!
Big thanks to the team at Saranac for generously providing two pairs of b-grl gloves to me. I also want to thank them for their patience as this review has been a long time coming.
Cute gloves! I always wear them when I do weights cause I get sweaty hands. 🙂 Plus, I also don’t wanna get too many calluses.
Thanks for this review. I’ve been wanting to try using gloves in my weight training.
