I struggled with postpartum life right after Spawn was born. I felt alone and isolated. The Wife was with me every step of the way yet I still found being a new mom to be lonely and kind of traumatic.
Somewhere around Week 8, I felt the fog lift. The Wife has been instrumental in getting me out. I no longer resemble nor act like Jabba the Hutt. I wear Baby Spawn when it’s the two of us. We also head out as a family a few times a week – it could be to the local mall, to grab a meal or to see friends and family.
Rookie Moms Challenge #9 – Mommy Movie Day
A few weeks ago, we discovered that Pacific Theatres hosted Monday Morning Mommy Movies! This was perfect because I hadn’t seen a movie in forever and I wanted to see Gone Girl. Done and done.
I packed our diaper bag with the usual as well as my Boppy. (I love My Brest Friend, but I use the Boppy as my “travel” nursing pillow. My friend K recommends the Luna Lullaby travel pillow because it’s smaller and easier to bring along.) The Boppy is big but Baby Spawn doesn’t have neck control and I don’t have three arms to help support her head and neck, my boobs, and to keep her level. So it came with me.
We arrived at the movie theater and saw many parents with strollers buying movie tickets as well. When we walked into the auditorium, the place was at least 50% filled with parents, babies, diaper bags, popcorn, and strollers. I also noticed moms wearing babies. I guess Gone Girl (and/or David Fincher) was a huge draw!

Dedicated stroller parking for Mommy Movie day!
There was a changing table set up inside the auditorium, the lights were dim, and the sound was slightly lowered. (I expected the lights to be a little brighter and the sound lower but it seemed like no one, including the babies, minded.) During the movie, I ended up nursing Baby Spawn, changing her diaper twice, and walking her up and down the aisle. No one blinked an eye. In fact, I shared the aisles with a few dads and their babies. Guess Spawn isn’t the only one who likes to be held and walked around.
Gone Girl was fantastic. I had not read the book, and now I don’t have to. No spoilers: Those characters are despicable. What a ride.
Challenge Completed!
I’m very appreciative that Pacific Theatres provides parents with babies and small children the opportunity to watch first-run movies!
Have you gone to a Mommy Movie Day in your area? What did you watch?
