Together Counts and BlogHer hosted a 5KÂ on Friday August 5, 2011. Since I hadn’t run in such a long time, I thought this would be a perfect segue into running again. (Especially since yours truly is so behind in training for the Long Beach Half.)
It was a long day but I packed my running gear and clothes with me, so I pushed myself to get up at 5:30AM and get ready. My roommie at BlogHer, AJ, said she was a heavy sleeper and wouldn’t mind any noise or light I’d make while getting ready. Good thing! I was having some trouble seeing in the dark. I got dressed and headed to lobby and out the door toward the water.
The 5K wasn’t exactly a race but more of a route to take whenever you wanted. I kind of liked the laid-back feel of this “race.”
I hit the trail toward the little peninsula twice and back down to the other one that surrounded the ampitheater.
The route was the blue one below:
I started out strong and kept it up until about the second loop. I had to take a rest. Lame. Beautiful views all around though. But then I got my wind back and kept going.
As I rounded back and started on the second leg of the route, I was getting tired again. I tried to pace myself as best as I could. I did stop to take pics… the weather was perfect for a run. I can see why San Diego is full of healthy people – it’s fun to run along the water!
It was neat to see the amphitheater where the orchestra would be performing that night. I should really be running…
In the end, I did a final push and ran the last leg. Overall, it was a good run, even though I was slackin’.
Another plus – I got a t-shirt and a cute reusable bottle! I don’t have this particular size, so this is a total win for me. It’s perfect for tucking into a purse. Thanks, Together Counts, for the swag!
Effort: B+
Mileage: 3 miles
Sweet! Another 5k for you in the books 🙂 Nice swag for a 5k, too! Which training timetable do you use?
Anyway, I thought training for autumn races should be better (than winter training for spring races) but I, too, am behind for my October half!
