I’m going to write this in two parts. This is Day 1 (Saturday).
I got up on Saturday totally excited and almost packed. I should have taken a photo of all my crap a la Sheryl. Oh well.
By the time we left home (around 1pm), I was feeling sick. Like, fever sick. The change in weather has been fucking with my body since Vegas. (Maybe I shouldn’t have spent time in the pool at the Mirage… meh. Too late now!)
We head to Citadel first b/c Bubba needed to return something. Then we were off to the Long Beach Courtyard by Marriott, which I had made reservations WEEKS ago.
We get there and I get to the front desk.
You ready for this?
I booked the wrong date!!!
And they’re sold out b/c of the marathon and some conventions going on. MOTHERFUCKER. AND.. get this – because I’m tagged as a “no show,” I got charged the room rate anyway.
What a fucking expensive mistake on my part. *tear* At this point, I was panicking and half trying to remember to be pragmatic. This not only affects me, it affects Washy who already drove down from the Valley to LB! Washy and her hubs Nick were staying in the same room with us. So I try to call her a gazillion times, but she must not be getting calls, so I finally leave a text and a voicemail.
Then I call the Best Western across the street, the Rodeway Inn across the street, and the Vagabond Inn down the street. Good luck! I got a room at the Vagabond Inn.
OMG. This place is ghetto! But apparently Bubba thinks we’ve stayed in even more ghetto situations. I dunno. I wouldn’t want to shower in that bathroom. Oh I wish I took a photo of our room. I am glad we were able to still find a room!!
We get to the Vagabond and then the front desk guy says we can only have ONE car in the parking lot! Shit! Washy calls me back and starts laughing – thank god! She says she’ll leave their car at the Marriott and pay the $10 there. Whew!
We all meet up at the LB Expo, and I’m pretty beat. I’m feeling pretty crappy but still excited. We get our bibs, take a few photos, and we both buy Body Glide. (Thank god we did!) We walk out and head towards Shoreline Village to hang out. The weather’s getting cooler and we head back to get their bags and get to the hotel.
By now, the three of them are laughing at the room, and pointing at the carpet. It’s pretty fug. (I’m still upset about the $145 mistake. *sigh*) For our carboload dinner, we head to La Strada, rec’d by V! SO GOOD. I forget (sort of) about the hotel and just eat awesome Italian food.
Afterward, Nick turns the tv on and some old 80’s movie is on. Who does he ask for the title and the synopsis? Yours truly. It was “My Secret Admirer” with C Thomas Howell, Lori Loughlin, and Kelly Preston – triple gross. But yes, I did watch it back in the 80’s; it was on tv. :p That’s my excuse.
And we all tried to sleep. We’d get up at 5:20am the next day.
