Thanks to one of my monthly Julep Maven subscription boxes, I got a chance to try Julep’s Bare Face Cleansing Oil. I’m a fan of cleansing oils now! Yes, I still wear makeup in the summer, and Julep’s cleansing oil does a marvelous job removing my makeup!
Julep Cleansing Oil – Julep
It’s Melting My Faaaaaaaace……!
Julep’s cleansing oil is pretty fantastic. The oil has the same lightness as the Dermalogica cleansing oil (PreCleanse) I’d reviewed previously. You wouldn’t think so because it’s an oil, but this shiz is fabulous. Julep’s cleansing oil contains grapeseed oil, olive oil, rosehip seed oil, and bottle uses a pump dispenser. I use about 3 pumps per wash.
For reference: my skin is sweaty all the time. It’s oily overall, with some dryness, depending on whether I drink enough water. I never thought I’d try another cleansing oil but I’m slowly becoming a big convert!
This stuff melts my makeup right off, including Trish McEvoy’s mascara, which I love to bits (and costs an arm and a leg).
Not familiar with cleansing oils? Consider a cleansing oil like a precursor to soap. It’s non-abrasive, made of oil, and is formulated to remove your makeup. Kind of like oil fighting oil. Sounds counterintuitive, I know. There is a light scent to the oil, almost mild. Who needs a stinky cleanser, amirite?
While most people just use a cleansing oil, I’ll take it a step further and soap up with a Cetaphil or Philosophy cleanser. I don’t think I have to do this but this is my ritual:
- Three pumps of cleansing oil, smoosh it around my face and eye area (to melt off eye makeup)
- Brush teeth while cleansing oil is working
- Rinse off cleansing oil with warm water; watch your makeup melt your face like in Poltergeist
- Use Clarisonic brush with Cetaphil or Philosophy cleanser
- BAM

One pump – Julep cleansing oil review
I’ve been using this oil for a week and I’ve barely made a dent into this new bottle! I think this bottle is going to last me the rest of the year and then some. (The tiny Dermalogica bottle lasted me at least four months.) Neither of the cleansing oils I’ve used have broken me out. When I break out, it’s mostly because I’m touching my face with my dirty fingers. Gross.
Julep sells this giant bottle for $28.00 US. It has not been tested by the EWG. If it does, I’ll update this post with its score.
