Johnny Rockets is celebrating National Shake Month! (So is my waistline!)
The Johnny Rockets team invited yours truly (and my fellow bloggers) to sample new burgers and their brand new candy milkshake at their original Melrose location. Yep, the Melrose location was opened in 1986, and it is the old school original. Learn more about their history here. True story – I’ve never been to this location. Ever. I know, I know, what kind of an LA native am I? Let me drown myself in a milkshake. Oooh I’m in luck!
As soon as got to the patio, I was greeted by Jericho Tallman, PR manager for Johnny Rockets, a cool press kit in the shape of a friggin’ milkshake flash drive (!!), and of course, ketchup art! Hehe.
Tweet them at @johnnyrockets or Instagram @johnnyrocketsUS with the hashtag #ketchupsmile so they can share your photos.
I sat down at a table with Donna of Dangerous Cupcake and her daughter. We were trying to convince her daughter to start a blog. (Come on, do iiiiiiiiit.) One of the great things these brands may or not realize is that these meetups are also opportunities for bloggers to get to know each other. I had first run into Donna when we were at the Titanic/Bodies media preview (blog post coming up!) in Buena Park. But she had to book it to work, and I slammed my face in the window of the building. (Classy, I know.)
Hey did I mention the fun swag? I tell ya, that blue pen? It writes really well. Kudos, Johnny Rockets. You think I’m joking but I’m not. I have been to enough events and conferences where organizers buy the cheapest pens that don’t work. How am I supposed to write notes?
More talking, more eating. Johnny Rockets servers came around with more and more burgers. I was starving – I had just come from lifting, so I was ready to chow down with some protein. Then it was our turn to tour the kitchen and watch Dave (shakeologist and franchise support manager) show us how it’s done.
Did you know Johnny Rockets serves 8.3 MILLION shakes and malts? You know what goes well with shakes? Dipping fries in them. Johnny Rockets serves 8 MILLION pounds of french fries each year, too. (See? I bet some of these guests are dipping their fries in their shakes like me!)
Each Johnny Rockets milkshake consists of 10-ounces of specially made Johnny Rockets-brand ice cream (that’s 3 flat scoops), 2 scoops of your fun stuff (Oreo cookies, etc), and 6-ounces of milk. Dave mixed his shake and then poured it into a branded glass. What caught my eye was the label on the multi-headed mixer.
Johnny Rockets is aware and sensitive to guests’ peanut allergies. Yes, Virginia, you CAN have a milkshake without worrying about cross-contamination with peanuts. They have a separate mixing head as well as a separate container for shake spoons to make sure no one has a problem at their restaurant.
Sidenote: In addition to peanut allergies, Johnny Rockets is aware of other allergies you may have, like gluten or celiac disease. They even have a section on their website about this. They will do what they can to please all guests, but look, you pretty much know what you’re getting into, so you should do your own due diligence too.
To top off my visit, Johnny Rockets came out with little cups of their new Fall Candy Shake, made with M&Ms! (Apparently I could have asked for a full-size one for the road, but I didn’t think of it. Gahhhhhhhh.) This shake was yummy. I don’t like my milkshakes with chunks of stuff in it. I don’t want to chew my milkshake. This Candy Shake has blended the M&Ms into tiny bits so I’m not picking my teeth. (Good job!)
So you’re wondering, Hey Chris, when can I order this Candy Shake?
Well, I’m glad you asked, friend. The new Candy Shake will be available on Monday September 16. This is perfect because I know y’all are going to Target on September 15 to wait in line for the new Philip Lim + Target collaboration. You can all reward yourself the next day with a milkshake!
(Or you can all do me a favor and wait at Johnny Rockets on September 15 and let ME shop the new Philip Lim line at Target in peace.)
Thank you to the team at Johnny Rockets for inviting me and the rest of these yahoos for a Shake Meetup!
Happy National Shake Month, all! Enjoy! And let me know what your favorite milkshake flavor in the comments! I’d love to try new flavors this month!
Disclosure: Johnny Rockets hosted. I ate. I write. Honestly. And honestly, these bloggers I hang out with? Yahoos.Â
I salute you and your Target endeavor! Great seeing you as usual ~ isn’t that milkshake flash drive ten shades of genius?! Great write up <3
Fabulous post. Godspeed at Target.
