Our family is tiny – it’s just me and The Wife (and impending Spawn!). When it comes to cookies, sometimes you just want ONE cookie, not an army’s worth. I seem to make 24 cookies per batch. The team at Jen & Joe’s Cookie Dough has come up with frozen cookie dough that you can pull one at a time to bake! (Ok, two at a time if you’re like me.)
Jen & Joe’s Cookie Dough sent me their entire collection of frozen cookie dough (individually sized!) to try! Punchline: I LOVE THEM. I love that they’re a LOCAL business! I love the concept. I love the cookies. …I love sugar.
These cookies are quite easy to make. I opened up the Oatmeal Toffee and the Chocolate Chunk boxes and threw them in the oven. I made four cookies – two for me, two for The Wife. In reality, it was more like three for me and one for The Wife.
Your mileage will vary. These two cookies have different baking temps and times, but I didn’t care and threw them in anyway. –> Don’t be like me. Follow the directions.
They were delicious! I dunked them in milk (DHA-fortified for Spawn, of course). You’ll see that the chocolate chunk cookies have a sprinkling of sugar on top! The Oatmeal Toffee cookies are my favorite flavor of the bunch.
In the next several days, I also tried to bake these cookies in my toaster oven. You know, cus I’m a college frat boy, and I’m lazy. (Plus do you know how hot it has been in LA? Do you think I’d turn my oven on in 90+F weather? Hell naw.)
So I made one Oatmeal Toffee cookie and two Chocolate Spice cookies. NOM. Proceed to more milk-dunking!
Now I’m not usually a fan of white chocolate but Jen & Joe’s also makes a White Chocolate Wasabi cookie. Holla at yo’ girl. There’s a mild kick to this cookie, and don’t worry, spicy lightweights – it will not kill you. (I actually think it could use some more wasabi!) Er, I forgot to take an “after” picture. “Forgot” is also loose term for “I ate it.”
Here’s a tip: When the cookies are ready, pull them out of the oven (or toaster oven) and let them sit for a minute on your plate. They’ll flatten to the perfect cookie shape.
Another tip: Once you open the package, put the rest of the unused cookie dough nuggets in a ziploc bag and store them back in the box. They fit perfectly!
I’ve also thrown two snickerdoodles into our new Vitamix with vanilla ice cream, ginger, milk, and chia seeds to make a milkshake… no photo – I was anxious to taste it
gulp it down like a freak. For my next trick, I’m going to mix the chocolate spice cookies with vanilla ice cream and see if I can’t get it to taste like cookies ‘n cream.
Want to know what other flavors Jen & Joe’s Cookie Dough comes in? Here you go! These are sold on Jen & Joe’s website – in six boxes of 12, shipped via Fedex in dry ice.

If you’re not an online shopper, you can also pick up a box of Jen & Joe’s using their store locator on their website. I popped in Downtown LA, and I found two Gelson’s that sold their product. They’re also sold at select Whole Foods, Jensen’s, Bristol Farms, and local markets in So Cal. If you’re close to a Safeway, rejoice! They’re coming this month!
What I also like about these cookies is their short list of ingredients. Even though I’m not vegan or allergic to gluten, I am conscious of what I’m eating as Spawn bakes. (Milkshakes aside…) I don’t want her to come out with a cigarette in her hand and a cup of coffee in the other. I find it a relief that their ingredients are pretty much the same ingredients you would use to make your own cookies.
If you’re like me and you don’t want to keep a lot of sweets in the house, these are it. Bake one at a time (or two, in my case). Satisfy your cookie craving and go about your day. I’ll have to hover over to Gelson’s to pick up a new box of Oatmeal Toffee soon! Maybe I’ll see you in the frozen section!
