Paleyfest: Community Panel 3.3.12

One of the great things about living in LA is being able to see your favorite cast live at the Paleyfest, presented by the Paley Center. The Paley Center for Media is a neat place. (Who knew stuffy Beverly Hills would have something that I like?) They house a ton of archives of old shows and props and costumes as well as host discussions about tv and film, their significance in the world/community, and how emerging platforms are being used to deliver and create new media. (I’d love to work there. How fun would it be to report on all the fun shows via social media… as a job!?)

Jen and I bought tickets to the Paleyfest back in early March for the COMMUNITY panel. #sixseasonsandamovie You can watch the videos on the Paleyfest website here: http://www.paleycenter.org/paleyfest2012-community/ (You should watch the first video when they all come out.) And the Hollywood Reporter has a good recap.

My only request to Paleyfest organizers – live audience questions should be vetted.

The Paleyfest comes around once a year, and there are plenty of different shows that are highlighted. This year, shows included American Horror Story; Once Upon a Time; New Girl; Parks and Rec; Mad Men; Sons of Anarchy; and Revenge. If you have the opportunity to attend, do it! You’ll have a fun time!

I’m all caught up with Being Human‘s first two episodes of Season 2. I still like the premise – werewolf, vampire and ghost trying live normal lives. Bwhahaha!! Hilarity and killing ensues. I thought the first season was wonderful. I haven’t seen the British original series, but it’s on the Netflix queue.

Aidan’s cleaned up. In the first season, I couldn’t figure out why people thought he was attractive. Perhaps Syfy spent a few more dollars on his make-up and hair. He looks so much better this season.

Speaking of much better – Josh has been working out. The man is rippppped. Still need a tan though. (I know I know, they’re in Boston.)

The first two episodes round back to Josh and Nora’s relationship. Nora turned into a werewolf and of course it freaked her out. Sally meets a few new friends, and she finds out she (and other ghosts) can kill (?) each other. Nice. Aidan has to answer to the Council and Mother (hahaha!), and Dichen Lachman (from Dollhouse!) guest stars! Yeah! This season is starting out well.

I also streamed the first two episodes of Lost Girl, which is a Canadian series that’s already aired there. I like the premise but goddamnit, it’s the FAE again! Then again, a succubus is a demon, right? That’s not really a fae. Whatever. The lead actor is not blonde – a plus in my book. The cast is a little wooden – I’m not sure how else to describe them. Maybe they’re new actors in the game. The Chris Martin look-alike (I don’t remember his charater’s name because in my head, he’s Chris Martin2) could use acting practice, and whatever accent he’s trying to hide, he should be allowed to just say whatever he wants in his native accent.

The first episode was great – it sets up the premise. Bo is running all the time. Everytime she kisses someone, she kills them. NICE. She finds out she’s a succubus. Her human friend is her new Robin/sidekick whose eyes creep me out. Is she wearing contacts?? I like Morrigan – the leader of the dark fae of that county. I’m hoping she’ll be a fun Big Bad. The second episode felt weaker. You know Chris Martin2 and Bo are going to get together (hello E1), but at the end of E2 – that was… fast.

While nothing can replace Buffy, and this isn’t about Vampire Slayers, Lost Girl has a lot of potential to game up. This will be on my list to keep watching via OnDemand.
