We love music. We spend a chunk of our income in concert tickets, and I spend the other chunk buying fantasy fiction – on ebook or on audiobook. The team at Bellybuds sent me their baby bump sound system to review and… to do a giveaway! But first, let’s talk about these Bellybuds.
What You Get
The Bellybuds deluxe sound system comes with a cute pouch to put your buds in, adhesives, and audio splitter. It also comes with instructions and a unique code for you to send to your family and friends so they can record a special message to Baby!
My Bellybuds Review
Punchline: I love this product! The Wife created a playlist for Baby Spawn, and I played it on my iPhone 5. I love that there is a splitter so I can field what Spawn is listening to and adjust the volume. (There is a lot of research that says that the baby is hearing a ton of loud noise in utero, so I tried to keep the volume at a somewhat normal level.)
Over the course of four weeks, I’ve played artists such as:
- Taylor Swift
- Justin Timberlake – she does not like it. There’s movement like she’s trying to kick JT out of her face.
- The Beatles
- NWA – not a fan, which is sad because I love “F*ck Da Police” a lot.
- Philip Phillips
I’ve also recorded my voice, reading aloud into my iPhone. You can totally use the Bellybud software online to record your voice too, but I found that it was easier for me to use my iPhone to do the same thing. I’m not embarrassed to say that I read Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews (one of my fave authors) and Dreams of Gods & Monsters by Laini Taylor to the baby.
The splitter is key. I think it’s the most valuable accessory next to the Buds themselves. I may or may not have sang off-key and aloud to every song on The Wife’s playlist to the baby too. (You can also just put the buds on your ear to hear if it’s too loud or soft.)
I also like that you can re-use the adhesives many times before you have to order new adhesives. You can adjust the Bellybuds so that they’re “closer” to the baby. Or you can lounge on the sofa like me and not use the adhesives at all.
Overall, this is a terrific gift for any mama-to-be! I absolutely support music therapy for any baby or child. There’s sports and then there’s art. Music makes life. If you end up buying the Bellybuds for yourself or for your friend, each deluxe system now comes with a FREEÂ Â download of “Mozart for Mother and Child”!!
What’s super fantastic is that Bellybuds has just partnered with Children’s Hospital LA (CHLA)! From now to Dec 1, 2014, a percentage of sales will go to Children’s Hospital LA’s Mark Taper-Johnny Mercer Artists Program and specifically, music therapy in CHLA’s Newborn and Infant Critical Care Unit, up to $150,000! (Watch the video and be inspired!)
