Disclosure: I was sent a pair of Adidas Energy Boost 2 shoes for my honest opinion and review. Post contains affiliate links.Â
When Adidas contacted me to test out a pair of running shoes, I was excited! Granted, I was in my third trimester but I was game. It’d been years since I’d try on Adidas for fitness and these new Energy Boost 2 shoes were designed for running. Over the last few weeks, this lightweight shoe has been one of my go-to shoes for my three mile walks.
Fit & Design
Size – As with all running shoes, I went up a 1/2 size. This was perfect as my pregnant feet are 1/2 size up from my usual size. They fit snugly but they don’t feel like your feet and toes are squished. The toe box does expand a bit.
Lightweight – This shoe is LIGHT! Light light light! It rates about 7.9 ounces for a Size 7 per Adidas. The upper is a meshy, breathable layer. If you’re familiar with today’s trend of lightweight, breathable running shoes, this fits right into the genre. However it’s not a minimalist/barefoot running shoe. There’s plenty of heel cushion, though the toe area has thinner cushioning.
Flexibility – The Boost 2 shoes are built to stay flexible. They’re not stability shoes so it’s missing the stiffness in the midfoot area.
Colors – Come on, we’re not going to wear boring colors for running! You gotta stand out! I chose “solar blue.” There are eight different color combos including this crazy neon yellow color which I was very tempted to pick up.
For reference, I usually run in Saucony ProGrid or Saucony Guide 7s. The Guide 7s are pretty light but not as light as these Boost 2 shoes.
Performance
Running -Â I tried to run with my Week 36 belly, but it was difficult. I ran for about 30 seconds on, 1 minute off, 30 seconds on. I did it to see how the shoes would feel with a higher impact strike. These are not stability shoes so you’re going to get some wiggle if you’re used to “traditional” running shoes with a stiffer mid-foot. We’re going to need to do some more running in these shoes, post-pregnancy.
Walking/Everyday – While these are designed for running, I found my Boost 2 shoes to be fantastic for walking. They’re light enough to feel the ground as your toe hits the pavement. There’s cushioning in the heel so you don’t feel like you’re barefoot running walking.
I also spent (a lot of) time at the doctor’s office, running errands, and attending a Dodgers game in these Boost 2 shoes. You can’t miss me. I’m the one wearing the bright blue shoes.
I’ve noticed that the shoe fits like a sock – they are meant to be snug-fitting. It felt like I didn’t need to wear my double-layer Wright running socks with them. But I did because STANK FEET. Like I’d mess up my new pair of shoes with stanky feet.
Final Verdict
The Boost 2s are solidly in my fitness shoe rotation. I’m stoked with their performance and its ability to keep up with my busy pregnant self. They come in a variety of colors, they’re so light weight, and have worked well in my daily exercise routines.
If you’re serious about running or fitness, these are for you.  Note – they will run you about $160, which is on the mid-to-higher end price point for good running shoes. These are performance shoes, not your fashion blogger’s running shoes. Ahem.
Big thanks to the folks at Adidas who sending me a pair for review! I’ll be wearing these as I go back to training and pushing Spawn in a stroller! Half Marathon training starts as soon as Spawn leaves the womb.
