It’s Menday. Let’s start the week off with some ogling, shall we?
I keep seeing this show listed on Cinemax but never gave it a second thought. But after watching The Emmys last night, I had to cleanse my palate… with violence. Meet the British production Strike Back. Cinemax went into a deal with Sky and the fourth season is up.
I’m currently watching the first season (aka the 2nd season in British television). It’s confusing but just read the Wiki and you’ll be fine.
First thing that caught my eye – Richard Armitage gets killed in the beginning of the first episode. (The moratorium for spoilers is over – this was aired in 2011.) You know him as Thorin Oakenfold in The Hobbit movie. (He starred in the first season/original series of Strike Back.) Second thing that kept me watching… someone ALWAYS get shot in the head. Third – the two leads. Hubba.
But really, someone always gets shot in the head. It’s not for everyone. It’s very violent, there is sex and some nudity, and a lot of death. One of the main characters sleeps with someone or flirts in every episode which makes me laugh. It’s like a running joke to see how many people he can get into bed. In addition to someone always getting shot in the head, someone in the cast almost always dies. The showrunners are very generous in doling out the deaths, unlike US television. I thought about adding up the number of headshots and slit throats for each episode but that required counting.
Thirdly, what caught my eye and made me stick around – in this season, their boss is a woman. I love British productions because they cast women as bosses like Judy Dench as M (James Bond); Helen Mirren as Tennison (Prime Suspect); and Saskia Reeves as DSU Teller (Luther).
In the US first season, the boss is played by Amanda Mealing. The US second season (Brit third), the boss is played by none other than Rhona Mitra! I love her! I wish she was cast in more movies. I feel the same way about Gina Carano.
I know that it’s cheaper to cast two leads, but I find it a little odd that it’s just the dynamic duo doing all the fighting and rescuing. I think it’d be more believable if this was a team. Whatever. Disregard. Their real names are Philip Winchester (for real) as Michael Stonebridge and Sullivan Stapleton (I can’t make this up) as Damien Scott.
Back to the two male leads. Look! They’re so growly! I love their rapport. Their conversations crack me up. This show is not going to win any Emmys but it does win for hot men. I’m ending this Menday post with a few show stills from the Strike Back FB Page and Skinemax’s show site. Enjoy!
Look at his guns! Pardon me while I drool over his biceps. Jeez.
I like women actors who actually look like they can kill you. Example: Rhona Mitra
Sorry, AJ, I couldn’t find many shirtless or naked photos to post. As Tina Fey and Amy Poehler said at the Emmys last night… Take your pants off! Twerk it!
Disclosure: I don’t need to put a disclosure here. I pay for cable. I like watching these two guys, especially when they’re shirtless. Cinemax, I wouldn’t be opposed to receiving any Strike Back swag to drool over…
