Korean BBQ is a real treat for me. It’s like my version of having a really good steak or slice of prime rib. I don’t eat it regularly but when I do, holy cow. Yum.
The folks at MooDaePo in Rowland Heights invited me to a media lunch meetup recently, and now I’ve got a KBBQ place I can point friends to. Wendy of Wendyful World played host to a room full of bloggers and Yelpers.
We started with some of MooDaePo’s popular entrees. This is a great variety for folks who are unfamiliar with KBBQ or prefer not having to cook their own meat. (Read: The Wife.)
After the individual entrees were served, we moved on to the “AYCE” – all you can eat – portion of the show. MooDaePo presented a giant tray of meat at us for the grill. (Pavlov’s dog reaction – that’s what was happening.) Say you don’t really know how to grill. It’s ok, the servers can help you! They walk by regularly to make sure your meat isn’t burnt, flipping them or moving them to the lower heat. After all, you may be spending $24.99 per person – don’t waste the meat! (What kind of Asian kid are you?)
There are different rates for AYCE. You can go total baller and order the $34.99/pp meat-o-rama. Menu here.
Apparently that giant round of onion isn’t only for eating. You put the cooked meat on it so it stays warm but doesn’t cook further. DUHHHHHHHH. I didn’t know this. And knowing is half the battle. The meat was tender and I just kept pulling it off the grill. Tablemates be damned.
Speaking of tablemates, I was the only blogger at my table. My tablemates were Yelpers. You can read their reviews here. Like I said before, food is very subjective. You either like it or don’t. You either trust your community to guide you or you don’t. So trust me, damn it.
I liked all the dishes served at Moo Dae Po. My favorite was probably the Yiksu Bulgogi and the bbq itself. I love meat. I love sauce. Wendy brought both sauces to us. Babe is psychic.
If you’re a Yelper, be sure to check in and get yourself a free iced coffee! I didn’t redeem this deal (I know I know!) at the time but I will be coming back and rest assured, this coffee addict will be asking for that iced coffee.
Or you can order one of these babies! Yes beer towers! Believe it or not, I’ve never had HITE beer. Ever. (What kind of Asian am I?) I can hear thousands of Korean children crying “Tragedy!” right about now. No, it’s just Amber. She’s probably disowning me right now.
Big thanks to the server team and management team at MooDaePo. Major props to Wendy who set this up and to her husband Allen who took a billion pictures. This was a blast and I will come back with reinforcements. Metz, you in?
Not convinced? There’s THIS. GO KINGS GO.
Oh and guess what, readers? MooDaePo Rowland Heights celebrates their one-year anniversary TOMORROW (8/8/13)! Come by and celebrate! And be sure to EAT.
Disclosure: Lunch event was hosted by MooDaePo. No monies were exchanged but a lot of meat was eaten by me. This post is my honest opinion. Duh. Who the F*CK lies on their blog? (You should die, if you lie.)
