Book count: 35 read, 15 more to go! I spent some time not reading Kevin Hearne’s Hammered (Book #3) in the last few weeks. Instead, I borrowed Jennifer Estep’s Mythos books and flew through them. I also re-read the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews (1-5) last week. I just can’t get into Hammered and blast through it. I’m about 65% done, so the good stuff should be rolling around the corner. Yet I put that aside and read something else. So I bought Gunmetal Magic and started reading that on my Kindle.
The other night, on our way home from dinner, I cornered the Wife in the car. (Er, he was driving so I guess he was trapped.) I said, “Give me 2 minutes! I don’t have anyone else to talk about these books!” I proceeded to tell the Wife how well thought out the Kate Daniels books were – how you could jump right in to her world and not blink an eye about tech and magic waves. I went on to tell the Wife that the author (husband-wife team under the name Ilona Andrews) didn’t force the main characters’ relationship(s) and let them progress over the series. Then my time was up and the Wife sighed. “That was 2 minutes of my life.” Ha!
Have you noticed how amazeballs some of these book covers are? While I love reading on my Kindle, I miss not having the actual books with me because of these covers! Look at the one at the top – hi, woman, with gun, looking badass – because she is! – of course I want that in my bookshelf!! But no, I bought the Kindle version which is black and white. (At least on my Kindle3.) Then look at the cover below for Kevin Hearne’s book – hi, druid guy, with a giant sword, looking badass – because he is! – it would be great to have that in my bookshelf too. Oh well. Kindle, you make it so easy to buy books with a touch of a button…
Note to self: Need to find a real bookclub that reads UF like me and not torture the Wife with my nerdy excitement for Gunmetal Magic.
