Talk about #techtuesday! I woke up today to see that a spam defense plug-in locked me out of my own blog. I couldn’t log in to post because the plugin thought I was using an automated log-in page. Thanks, plugin. So I logged into Filezilla (FTP) but didn’t because I couldn’t remember my password. So I logged into my host server account and tried to futz with it. No dice.
While in my host server account on the web, I decided to change my password. I also finally figured out my old password to log into FTP. I deleted the suspect anti-spam plugin, and was able to almost log in.
I got this message:
I racked my brain and found the solution. I needed to update the wp-config.php file with my new db password. Ta da!
Lesson of the day: If you ever get this message, check your wp-config.php file. You can do this by downloading it and opening it up. Change the password (to your updated password) and then save and upload it back.
Other FTP programs out there*:
- Fetch – http://fetchsoftworks.com/
- Cyberduck – http://cyberduck.ch/
- SmartFTP – http://www.smartftp.com/
* I haven’t used these in a while since I’ve been using Filezilla. If you have other FTP recos, please let me know!
