Book Review: Ascend

It’s no surprise that I am a serial reader. My little cousin told me that the third and final book of Amanda Hocking’s series was out on Kindle and it was enough for me to click the Buy button and finish the trilogy. (Yes yes, I know I said I wasn’t going to…)

Ascend by Amanda Hocking (book 3/3)

I read the first two books in late last year. Honestly, I was trying to get my read count up. This time around, I just wanted to finish this series.

Ascend by Amanda Hocking takes place immediately after the second book ends. Wendy is about to marry her friend Tove, another powerful troll. Loki shows up and asks for amnesty.

Spoilers: Wendy ends up with ‘breaking up’ with Finn the tracker, and her love for Loki grows. Uh. They get together in the end. I believe she also cuts off her dad’s head. The end. Ta da. You have just saved some money.

This 3-book series should have been one giant book. Instead the publisher decided to be greedy and split it up so they could make more money. Good job, publisher. I believe you have my hard-earned cash in your pockets.

This book felt rushed. I didn’t feel any connection to the characters except for Finn. Poor guy. Ok, Loki too. Even though there was more interaction between the queen (Wendy’s mother) and Wendy, everything felt sloppy. I felt like I was glossing over a glossed over book. Does that make sense?
